Carolinas Track and Field Club

The UNCC track will not be available for practice 3/15 through 3/17. Volunteers are still needed to help with the field events on all three days. Below is the schedule of events. Call Stacy Ashton (704-427-2458 / stacey.r.ashton@wachovia.com) if you can volunteer. Helping UNCC with these meets is part of the deal with using their track for our Club practice. Future UNCC meet dates that will also need volunteers are March 31, 2007 (Charlotte Invitational), and May 5&6, 2007 (A-10 Outdoor Championship Meet).

The Club website "carolinastrackandfield.org" is being updated starting today. It should be ready soon for your viewing. If you have any ideas for additional website content, send them to Gregg Swindlehurst by replying to this e-mail.

The Club held an informal meet (time and field event trials) and practice on Saturday March 10 at the UNCC track. Those in attendance were Todd Haire, Sam Hall, Marcella Hale, Mike DeMarte, Dave Oman, Jim McKeon, Anthony Searles, Regina Edwards, Ken Bender, Rob Jackson, Rob Cousar, and Gregg Swindlehurst. The weather was awesome. The performances that were recorded were: 60 meter dash (Anthony 7.4, Gregg 7.9, Regina 8.3); 60 meter hurdles (Regina 9.6, Gregg 9.9); 200 meter dash (Anthony 25.?, Gregg 26.5); Long jump (Regina 4.83); Triple jump (Regina 10.71).

Club membership dues for 2007 have been set at $20. If you were a member in 2006 all you need to do is mail Ken Bender a check for $20. Ken’s address is 1104 Bellegrove Place, Charlotte NC 28270. If you were not a member in 2006, please fill out the form on the Club website so we can get all the needed information, and then send your check to Ken. You will also need to join USATF to compete in meets.

The USATF Masters Indoor Championship will be held March 23-25 in Boston MA. Several Club members will be there to represent us.

The Board will soon be discussing firming up the meet on April 14 at JCSU. Stay tuned. You will need to be a 2007 member of USATF to compete.

The 37th Annual BB&T Bob Boal Masters & Open Track and Field Meet will be held in Durham on May 4&5. April 27th is the registration deadline. CT&FC won the team championship last year, and it would be great to make a good showing again this year. The Board of Directors will be deciding on providing transportation to this meet. Meet information is attached.

This meet will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill SC – real close to Charlotte. The registration deadline is June 8. There is no excuse for not having a large turnout from our Club at this meet. Put it on your calendar.

The official Club practice is 9:00 – 12:00 a.m. on Saturdays at the UNCC track, weather permitting. Several members are also training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00.
