Results of BB&T Bob Boal Masters & Open Track & Field Meet – May 4&5 Durham

Twenty members of CT&FC traveled to Durham to compete in the 37th BB&T Bob Boal Masters and Open Track & Field Meet on May 4&5.  The weather was less than ideal with a light rain on and off and cool temperatures, but the enthusiasm at this mid-size masters meet was evident.  Our pole vaulters performed particularly well, with Bill Halverson (4.10m), Vince Struble (3.80m), and Tim Rhyne (3.50m) leading the way.  Regina Richardson and Bob Rockwell posted some strong efforts in the long and triple jumps.  We were well represented in the throwing events with eight competitors, including the hammer, weight, and super weight events.  Our most-experienced members, Bill Gramley and Jerry Vaughn, had some great throws.  Chris Sarsony, Jameson Wells, and Kevin Rumble all competed in the outdoor pentathlon.  Terry Martin was a workhorse, competing in the weight pentathlon and five other events.  I believe that two world records were set in distance running events, and Arne Bradstock M45 threw the javelin an amazing 68.80m.  The complete list of CT&FC member results are attached below and are also posted on the Club website.  The full meet results are on the Southeastern Masters website (www.southeasternmasters.org).

Club Membership for 2007

So far only 32 members have paid the $20 Club dues for 2007 (there must be a lot of procrastination going on).  If you were a member in 2006 all you need to do is mail Ken Bender a check for $20.  Ken’s address is 1104 Bellegrove Place, Charlotte NC 28270.  If you were not a member in 2006, please fill out the form on the Club website so we can get all the needed information, and then send your check to Ken.  You will also need to join USATF to compete in meets.

Atlanta Track Club Track & Field Classic – June 9, 2007

The Atlanta Track Club will be hosting a masters meet on June 9 at Emory University in Atlanta.  Their website is www.atlantatrackclub.org.  The Atlanta Track Club membership had a good showing at our meet at JCSU on April 14, and this is a good opportunity to reciprocate by attending their meet.  The registration deadline is June 4.

South Carolinas Masters and Open Track & Field Championships – June 23, 2007

This meet will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill SC – real close to Charlotte.  The registration deadline is June 8 .  The CT&FC membership should really turn out for this nearby meet.  Put it on your calendar.  The website is www.scusatf.org.

Charlotte Summer Track Series

The Charlotte Track and Triathlon Club will be sponsoring running event meets (no field events or hurdles) for all age groups at Myers Park High School on five Tuesday evenings starting May 29 and ending June 26.  The website is www.charlottetrackandtriclub.org.  This is a nice opportunity to get a lot of racing experience at low cost.

Tentative CT&FC Meet In July

The Board of Directors will be deciding on hosting a meet in July.
