THE JUNE 9 MEET AT UNCC HAS BEEN CANCELLED – MAY BE RESCHEDULED FOR JULY

The CT&FC masters track & field meet scheduled for June 9 at UNCC has been cancelled.  The reason for cancellation is an insufficient projected number of participants.  In 2006 more than 85 people were signed up as members of CT&FC.  So far in 2007 about 30 people are paid members.  At the meet we hosted on June 14 at JCSU 17 members participated.  We were fortunate to draw many non-members from Atlanta, Virginia, Maryland, and New York to obtain a sufficient number of participants to make that meet a success.  In response to the e-mail soliciting participation on June 9, 13 CT&FC members replied that they would participate, and 12 replied that they would not be able to.  The Atlanta track club (www.atlantatrackclub.org) is hosting a meet on the same day, and so they would not attend our meet on June 9.  In summary, there was simply not enough members committing to participate on June 9 to make the meet successful.  Members are encouraged to consider participating in the meet in Atlanta – a nice way to reciprocate their attendance at our meet on April 14.  Jerry Vaughn says that he will be there.  Several Club members are also planning to participate in the North Carolina State Games in Greensboro on June 10.  I have heard mixed comments on the quality of the experience at previous NC State Games for the masters track and field events.

Todd Haire has suggested trying to re-schedule this meet for a Saturday in July.  Anyone interested in helping Todd plan and organize this meet should contact him.

Club Membership for 2007

Club membership dues for 2007 have been set at $20.  At present about 30 members have paid for 2007.  If you were a member in 2006 all you need to do is mail Ken Bender a check for $20.  Ken’s address is 1104 Bellegrove Place, Charlotte NC 28270.  If you were not a member in 2006, please fill out the form on the Club website so we can get all the needed information, and then send your check to Ken.  You will also need to join USATF to compete in meets.

USATF Southeastern Region Masters Championship – April 20-21 Savannah GA

Bob Rockwell and Gerald Vaughn represented CT&FC in Savannah.  Bob posted performances of 1.48m in the high jump, 4.85m in the long jump, and 10.82m in the triple jump.  Gerald putted the shot 15.08m.  Congratulations to Bob and Gerald for their gold medal winning efforts!   I have been informed that I missed reporting Stefan Waltermann’s success in winning the pentathlon.  Congratulations to Stefan also!

South Carolinas Masters and Open Track & Field Championships – June 23, 2007

This meet will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill SC – real close to Charlotte.  The registration deadline is June 8.  The CT&FC membership should really turn out for this nearby meet.  Put it on your calendar.

Club Practice Schedule

The official Club practice is 9:00 – 12:00 a.m. on Saturdays at the UNCC track, weather permitting.  Several members are also training on some weekday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00.
