Club Practice Schedule Saturdays at the UNCC Track

The regular Club practice schedule is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the UNCC track.  Some members are also informally practicing on some weekday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m.

Results of June 10 NC State Games in Greensboro

The following CT&FC members placed at the NC State Games in Greensboro on June 10.

Bill Gramley:  1st place shot put (broke his own meet record); 1st place discus; 2nd place long jump

Terry Martin:  1st place high jump; 2nd place long jump; 2nd place discus

Tim Rhyne:  2nd place pole vault

Chris Sarsony:  1st place discus; 2nd place long jump; 2nd place 1500m; 3rd place 200m

Tom Steed:  1st place discus

Vince Struble:  1st place pole vault

Results of Atlanta Track Club Track & Field Classic – June 9, 2007

Gerald Vaughn, Dan Linker, and Gregg Swindlehurst represented CT&FC at the Atlanta Classic on June 9. 

Gerald Vaughn broke his own world record in the shot put, throwing an amazing 15.42 meters (50 ft 7.25 inches)!  Jerry says that he was training to peak at this meet, and that would appear to be an understatement CONGRATULATIONS JERRY! 

Dan Linker placed first in the shot put.  Gregg Swindlehurst placed first in the 100m hurdles, 2nd in the 100m, 400m, and 400m hurdles, and fourth in the 200m.

South Carolinas Masters and Open Track & Field Championships – June 23, 2007

Nineteen members of CT&FC have registered to compete in this meet at Winthrop University in Rock HillResults in the next e-mail.

Charlotte Summer Track Series at Myers Park High School

The Charlotte Track and Triathlon Club is sponsoring two more running event meets (100 meters up to two miles, but no field events or hurdles) for all age groups at Myers Park High School on Tuesday June 19 and June 26.  The website is www.charlottetrackandtriclub.org.  This is a nice opportunity to get a lot of racing experience at low cost ($1 per event entered).  At the June 5 meet CT&FC was represented by Anthony Searles, Ken Bender, Alan Sigmon, J. B. Tillery, and Gregg Swindlehurst.  Derrick Archie, the fastest 100 meter masters track athlete in the country for all age groups, and Trent Guy the fastest high school sprinter in the nation, ran awesome times in the 100 and 200 at the June 5 meet.

Charlotte Track Series at UNCC

The UNCC Track Team will be sponsoring meets at the UNCC track all five Tuesdays in July.  Registration begins at 5:00 and the meet starts at 6:00.  The schedule of events is 100m, 800m, 4 x 100m relay, 200m, mile, 400m, 3000m, and 4 x 400m relay.  The cost is $4 and you may enter three events.  This is an excellent opportunity for CT&FC to compete on our home track.  Let’s have a big turnout in July!

Todd Haire, Club President, has the lead on arranging a meet in July. 

USATF Master Outdoor Championships – Orono ME – August 2-5

It’s time to get serious about training for the USATF national masters outdoor championships.

Club Membership for 2007

The Club dues for 2007 are $20.  If you were a member in 2006 all you need to do is mail Ken Bender a check for $20.  Ken’s address is 1104 Bellegrove Place, Charlotte NC 28270.  If you were not a member in 2006, please fill out the form on the Club website so we can get all the needed information, and then send your check to Ken.  You will also need to join USATF to compete in meets.
