Club Practice Schedule Saturdays at the UNCC Track

The regular Club practice schedule is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the UNCC track.  Some members are also informally practicing on some weekday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m.  It has been a brutal summer for training in Charlotte, but the weather is projected to cool off starting next week.  Robert Jackson is providing workout schedules for those looking for help structuring their training.  Some members are picking up new events for next year to add some diversity to their training and to set new goals.  September is a good month to get back in shape.  We hope to see you at the track!

Jim Russ is the World Decathlon Champion in M50-54 !!!!!

Competing in the World Masters Athletics Championships in Riccione Italy this week, CT&FC member JIM RUSS won the decathlon and is the WORLD CHAMPION in the M50-54 with an amazing score of 7268 points.!!!!  Jim had the top performances in the 100 meters and the pole vault, and was second in the 100 hurdles and the javelin.  For those of us that witness Jim’s commitment to the sport and his strenuous daily training routines at the UNCC track, this really isn’t a surprise – how could anyone train harder and deserve it more?  Jim is an amazing decathlete!

Stefan Waltermann is Competing at the World Championships in Italy

CT&FC member Stefan Waltermann M55-59 is competing at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Riccione Italy this week.  Stefan placed 13th in the decathlon, and was the second highest scoring American, with an excellent score of 5015 points!!  Later this week Stefan will also be competing in the 200m, the 400m, and the javelin.  You can see daily updates to the results on www.usatf.org.

Michael Kountze Triples at State Games of America

CT&FC member Michael Kountze M45-49, now residing in Nashville, tripled at the State Games of America held in Colorado Springs on August 4&5.  Michael ran some blazing times in winning the 50m in 6.54, the 100m in 11.80, and the 200m in 24.37.  Michael says that these competitions are held every two years.

CT&FC Fall Party is Being Organized – Your Input is Requested

The Club will be sponsoring (i.e. no cost to members) a party this fall for members and spouses and significant others.  The main purpose is to have fun, but also to talk about what we should do to improve the Club.  The date has not yet been firmed up, but Saturday September 29 has been suggested.  The party will be at a restaurant in the UNCC area with all costs covered by the Club.  Robert Jackson has checked out Midtown Sundries off Harris Boulevard (3425 David Cox Rd) and that looks to be a good possible location.  Please reply by e-mail with suggestions.  Invitations will be extended to all members that have paid dues for 2007.  You can still join via the website.

Upcoming Elections for Board of Directors

Election of a new Board of Directors and Club officers will be this fall.  Please reply by e-mail if you are interested in serving on the CT&FC Board of Directors.  A meeting announcement will be made after the fall party.
